A great way to renovate your bathroom or kitchen is to update cabinets. When potential clustomers are looking to make improvements in both of these rooms, they can either replace or install new cabinets (very expensive and can be a lengthy process) or they can keep their existing cabinets and modernize them by painting them. This environmentally- and financially-friendly option can often times turn out better than buying new cabinets. Customers often ask us two questions about cabinets:
1. “What type of paint do you use for painting cabinets?”
The answer is usually oil or latex enamel. Although there are other options (shellac, latex, etc.), we have found that oil and latex enamel provide the most durability over time and provide an excellent look. Oil paint by design is a little more durable than latex enamel, which can be a plus for high traffic areas. The downside to oil paint is that there are many chemicals added to the product, which lead to a strong lingering smell after the cabinets are finished.
2. “White cabinets seem to be a current trend, but aren’t they difficult to keep clean?”
Although white cabinets will show dirt and stains easier when compared to darker natural wood cabinets, most of our customers do NOT have issues with keeping them clean. One suggestion is to use either a satin or semi-gloss sheen, which will reduce the amount of visible imperfections on the cabinets. If customers are still concerned about white cabinets, Tulsa Home Renovators recommends cream or light gray cabinets as an alternative. In addition, a glaze can be applied on top of the cabinet, which reduces the appearance of imperfections.
